Jesus is probably the most famous person to ever live. By Christians, He is considered to be the Son of God and Savior of the world. His teaching was literally life and death. He said that those who believe in Him would have everlasting life, but those who reject Him were condemned (John 3:16 KJV) Jesus saw Himself as God’s answer to how people can know God. He even told His disciples that if they had seen Him they had seen God (John 14:9 KJV).
Why is it important to know God?
We believe that we are made by God and for God. In every person, there exists a longing for the divine that can only be filled by a real relationship with God. Life, at its best, is experienced when we align ourselves with God’s authority. Only then can we experience the greatest joys and the most abundant life imaginable. We at Nelson County Baptist Church want to introduce you to this radical, awesome life. And then we want you to share this great joy with everyone you meet.

Knowing God begins with understanding three things.
1. God loves you and has a purpose for your life. (John 3:16, John 10:10)
It’s hard to believe that a Holy God would love each and every person. But that is exactly what the Bible teaches. No matter what you have done, God still loves you. Because He loves you, He wants the very best for your life. He promises not only everlasting life but also an abundant life on the earth. Life becomes abundant when lived in a loving relationship with God.
2. You are separated from God because of sin. (Romans 3:23, Romans 6:23)
God created people to have fellowship with Him. But the sin that we commit puts a wall between us and God, making fellowship impossible. The Bible teaches that every person has sinned against God. Behind the word sin, in the Bible, is the idea of missing the mark. We are always shooting for the bulls-eye but missing. Sometimes we miss by a little, sometimes we miss by a lot. But even the slightest miss means we have fallen short of God’s righteousness. Even the smallest sin committed results in separation from God. The pay or wages for sin is death.
3. Jesus is the Way to have fellowship with God. ( Romans 5:8, 1 Corinthians 15:3-6 , john 14:6)
Since the wages of sin is death, God’s justice demanded punishment for the sin of the world. When Jesus willingly gave himself by dying on the cross, this satisfied justice. The wage of sin has been paid by Jesus. Jesus suffered in our place. To prove that he was truly the Son of God and show us that He has power to give us life, He was raised from the dead after three days. Hundreds of people saw Him alive after His death. The only path to enter into relationship with God and have everlasting, abundant life is by believing in Jesus.
Every person, when they are presented with who Jesus is, must make a decision. Do we believe or not? Jesus has cleared the path between us and God. The Bible says that in order to accept this gift of life from God we must confess with our mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in our heart that God has raised Him from the dead (romans 10:9). The confession that Jesus is Lord means that we submit to God’s authority in our life. The belief in the resurrection means that we trust that the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross is enough to pay for our sin and give us the abundant life that only comes from God. If you are ready to submit to God’s authority in your life, you can say a prayer like this.
“Lord Jesus, I want to know you personally. Thank you for dying on the cross for my sins. I open the door of my life and receive You as my Savior and Lord. Thank You for forgiving my sins and giving me everlasting life. Take control of my life. Make me the kind of person You want me to be.”
